Data in SQLite databases is stored in tables.

A table has columns with headings. Items are stored in these
tables as rows, sometimes called records.

This model also applies to MySQL, MariaDB and PostgreSQL

Create table

Connect to database

Connect to your database with the command

1
$sqlite3 database.db

where database.db is your existing database.

Make table

Surprise, create a table with the SQL query

1
CREATE TABLE

The database system needs to know the column names.

CREATE TABLE EMPLOYEE(
ID INT PRIMARY KEY NOT NULL,
NAME TEXT NOT NULL,
EDUCATION TEXT NOT NULL,
SALARY REAL
);

The table has four columns: id, name, education, salary.
How does the database know what kind of data can be inside the cells? we define that (TEXT, REAL)

You can create as many tables as you want.

Got tables? Now you can insert data.

List tables

Every database can have tables. To view the tables you have use the SQL query:

1
sqlite> .tables

That will show you a list of all tables.
