Database systems allow you to interact with data on a very fast scale.

Many database systems use the SQL language. One of such systems is SQLite.

Create database

Create a database with SQLite.

You can create a new database with the command:

$sqlite3 database.db

This will create the file database.db. Yes, this file contains the entire database: all data.

Database name must be unique.

SQLite shell

You enter a special command prompt after typing the command above.
This is shown by the letters:

sqlite>

You can type SQL queries : interact with the database.

You’ll need this prompt many times in throughout this tutorial.

To see an overview, write:

Quit SQLite

You can exit the SQLite3 shell by typing

sqlite>.quit

This will exit the prompt.
